Chinese government has changed its policy towards Chinese auto industry from dropping “rescue packets” to encouraging Chinese auto industry to develop in the direction of being stronger and with higher quality. With this new trend, the OEMs in China are facing a “live or die” competition.
In this context, Xuanyuan Award, with its aim to promote Chinese Automotive industry to develop in a high-quality, sustainable and competitive way, has once again ushered its “Xiangyang Moment”.
From October 15th to the 26th, the 6th Xuanyuan Award completed an 11-day’s assessment phase at National Automobile Quality Supervision and Test Center (Xiangyang) in Xiangyang.
Over 55 experts from Auto Business Review, EFS Consulting, Dewetron, EDAG, NAST (National Automobile Quality Supervision and Test Center (Xiangyang), AVL, PATEO, i-VISTA (Intelligent Vehicle Integration System Test Area), Automotive Engineering Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Automotive Institute of Tongji University conducted the different assessment categories on 36 Xuanyuan Award Nominees.
Among the 36 Nominees, there are 25 domestic brands and 11 JV brands or foreign brands. There are 22 traditional vehicles and 14 new energy vehicles (5 PHEV & 9 BEV).
It is particularly worth mentioning that for the first time of Xuanyuan Awards, the new startup carmakers have made their appearance at the Xuanyuan Award. Four products including NIO ES8, Weltmeister EX5, Qiantu K50 and SITECH DEV1 participated in the assessment.
During the 11-day assessment, in addition to the previous Chinese and Western dynamic and static assessment, the range and energy efficiency tests of pure electric vehicles, many new contents and changes are added:
Firstly, Dynamic deep-dive by experts from EDAG Germany was added to the original general dynamic assessment;
Secondly, assessment of interior perceived quality in comparison with material cost is focused on the more cost-effective pure electric vehicles;
Thirdly, Automotive Engineering Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University has sent a team to evaluate the configuration and dynamic experience from the customer point of view.
Fourthly, in order to promote the further development of Chinese auto industry towards intelligence, experts from PATEO and Automotive Institute of Tongji University has carried out all-round evaluations of the sofeware and hardware of the HMI system from Chinese customers’ point of view in terms of product architecture, functional subjective experience, UI design, voice recognition, etc.
Fifthly, assessment of ADAS function was newly added to the Xuanyuan Award Assessment. Vehicles with selected ADAS functions (APS & ACC) were chosen to be assessed towards future even more advanced autonomous driving perspective.
Last but not least, WLTP testing circle was chosen as the standard to assess the range and energy efficiency of the pure electric vehicles both on the bench and on real road.
Now, all the assessment data is being processed and the report of the assessment results will be presented to the international jury of Xuanyuan Award as one of the major reference for them to make their decision on the winners.
Meanwhile, we are also hoping that the advantages and disadvantages of the vehicles found from the assessment can be communicated to the OEM and to help them together to develop a stronger Chinese automotive industry.
The jury session of Xuanyuan Award is on the December 13th and 14th of 2018 at Beijing Auto Museum, the Winners of Xuanyuan Award will be revealed at the Award ceremony on the 15th of December also at Beijing Auto Museum.
